TEXTURES: Drawing Circles
Interviews

Words by Michael O'Brien

Netherlands based progressive metal band Textures are, for me, one of the true shining lights in metal these days. Their second album, 2006’s Drawing Circles, was my first introduction to the band and because of it I instantly considered myself a fan. With the band’s follow-up release, Silhouettes, barely on the streets for a month at the time I had the chance to have a chat with guitarist/backing vocalist Jochem Jacobs about the new album and life inside of Textures.

FRANKENBOK: The Other Side Of Hell Australian Tour
News

These blokes have been around since 1997 and they still won’t go away!

After releasing Greetings & Salutations (2000 Faultline/Shock), Loopholes & Great Excuses (2001 Dark Carnival), Blood Oath (2003 RoadRunner) and extensive AUS & NZ tours…including top support slots with Slayer, MachineHead, Soilwork, Skinlab, 8 Foot Sativa, Fear Factory & System of a Down, Frankenbok have embarked on their finest works to date.

Murder of Songs is 10 tracks of speed, thrash & bent-out-of-shape melancholy metal with little foot notes from hell about lies, persecution and what it’s really like being Down to the Wire or to Worship before the Dead.

The Last Ditch Redemption is a concept EP about a bad motherfucker who does many unspeakable things. After delving into the hell of his twisted mind he emerges believing that in order to redeem himself he must make amends by helping those who cannot help themselves. With trademark thrashing riffery & powerful catchy choruses, this is a complete balls out rockin’ affair.

In support of these releases Frankenbok will be thrashing their way to a venue near you!

DRAGONFORCE: Australian Tour 2008 Announced
News

Every year there are albums eagerly anticipated, be it from hot young names, established legends or – and this is usually the most exciting of all the categories – those bands you know are on the verge of greatness.

As Dragonforce prepare to unleash their fourth album Ultra Beatdown, anybody who understands the world of metal can have any doubt that we are about to witness a band going from being ‘potential international stars’ to a ‘major global phenomenon’.

It’s not merely the culmination of a decade crafting and finessing a sound that has made them instantly recognizable across the world. It’s not even state-of-the-art for metal, nor just a gantlet being thrown down for everyone else. This is more than that. It’s Dragonforce experimenting, taking risks, being bold – precisely what you’d expect any masters of their art.

‘Through The Fire And Flames’, from previous album Inhuman Rampage has become a modern day power metal anthem, thanks to Guitar hero 3 and the legend that it is reportedly ‘impossible’ to perfect on expert level (although some have bravely tried). The band’s sales prowess combined with a live reputation that puts many of the peers to shame, Dragonforce have earned the cachet of being the most successful new British metal act in America for two decades!

But the release of Ultra Beatdown is not the only thing Dragonforce enthusiasts have to look forward to! Talking the excitement level past 11 is the news that Dragonforce have packed their mini trampolines and guitar risers ready for an official Australian tour this October!
