In case of an alien invasion, call Aversions Crown
Brisbane extreme metallers Aversions Crown have released their second album, Tyrant, and oh my, what an album it is! From start to finish, the album takes you on an incredible apocalyptic alien invading journey! They're termed as an 'Aliencore' band - a fitting term really! I didn't even know there was a genre termed Aliencore. If that genre is set to become a thing, Aversions Crown will be the kings in the genre. And unless a bunch of aliens start their own extreme progressive deathcore band, no other band can come close brutality that is contained in Tyrant.
What makes Aversions Crown stand out in comparison to the other extreme/deathcore bands in the scene is the intelligence of their music. It is not just breakdown after breakdown – there's amazing intensity, groovy, epic vibes and with breakdowns placed accurately that really do break you down.
Opening track, "Hollow Planet", brilliantly sets the mood and you know exactly what you're in for. High intensity, extreme drumming, mind-spinning riffs and earth-shattering breakdowns. The lyrics are insane as well - think of a really, really good alien-themed movie, but in the form of a 40-minute album. For those of you who are sceptical about extra terrestrial life, this album paints pictures which will have you believing. And, if you're someone who does believe in aliens, this album brings to life your worst nightmares on the subject. However, I'm fairly certain that if you blast this album as soon as the aliens enter your bedroom to probe you, they will run and never come back!
The crushing breakdown in "The Glass Sentient", the haunting melody and groove in "Conqueror", the sheer intensity of "Vectors" - they are all brilliant tracks. I can honestly say that every single track on this album has something special in it - and that one special moment is enough to make the track a special track. What even is "Avalanche"? Amazing, let me just go toss my bed out the window because this song makes me feel like I can. Then you have "Overseer" - even the Aliens will shit themselves. And, finally, the track "Faith Collapsing" - absolutely incredible, and you can literally feel your faith collapsing.
To sum it up, Tyrant is one hell of an album that makes you feel incredibly powerful while also crushing you as if your existence is insignificant. Aliencore is here to stay and no band on the planet, or universe, can do it better than Aversions Crown. Surrender to these brutal Australiens!
